What’s In the Bag? A Magical Kids Yoga Pose Game

Simple, screen-free fun to get kids moving, imagining, and feeling confident.

What Is “What’s in the Bag?”

This is one of our most-loved group games—and all you need is a bag and some yoga cards! Each child gets a turn to reach into the bag, pull out a pose card, and become the teacher. They demonstrate the pose for the group, and everyone joins in.

It’s simple. It’s empowering. And it turns kids into brave, playful leaders.

What You’ll Need:

  • A fun-looking bag (we love using a sparkly tote or treasure chest!)

  • A printed deck of Young at Heart Yoga Cards (more on those below!)

  • A group of kids ready to play and move

How to Play:

  1. Gather everyone in a circle

  2. Hold up the bag and say: “Let’s see what’s in the yoga bag today!”

  3. Invite one child at a time to close their eyes and pull a card

  4. That child becomes the “teacher” and shows the pose to the class

  5. Everyone practices the pose together—bonus points for sound effects, story lines, or pose names!

Encourage the “teacher” to name their pose or tell a mini story about it:

“This is a Lion. He lives at the top of the mountain!”

“This is a Lion. He lives at the top of the mountain!”

This is my Strong Star pose. It helps me feel brave.”

Final Thought

This game is simple, silly, and seriously effective at getting even shy kids to light up. Plus, it creates a natural moment for you to reinforce your class intention—“Look at that Brave Warrior!”

Try it once, and it might become your go-to transition tool.
